A dislocated hip is extraordinarily painful to put weight on, so your cat will be "three-legged lame" - walking but not putting weight on the leg with the dislocated hip. The hip area will also look different as compared to the normal side. Final confirmation will be made by a veterinarian after a physical examination and hip radiographs (X-rays).

See if she's limping, turning her nose up at food, or staring at the floor. If she's not doing that, then the cat is fine. If she is, check the paw to see if there's something like a thorn or a piece of glass in there. If the paw isn't the problem, get the cat to a vet. (And then get a bandage to put on the numerous scratches you got for trying to see her paw and then taking her on a car trip!) i have been to the vet, but she says the paw is dead however i can feel warmth and a small pulse which to me would indicate circulation of blood which im quite sure doesnt happen when something is dead. She is eating fine but limping terribly and holding her leg funny, and she crys if we try to apply light pressure to he shoulder, it also feels weird in comparaison to the other shoulder more bumpy if that makes any sense. The leg itself is just floppy as if it was asleep or something. i will go back to the vet and see if i can get a 2nd opinion. Thanks!

If he or she is limping and not using the leg, you need to take the cat to a veterinarian, who can x-ray the cat and see if the leg is broken.

If it is broken, your cat may consistently lie down or limp around, and it's leg would probably be bent.

It can break it's hip in many ways having something fall/or thrown at it with force, but the most common way is for it to jump and fall not paws first, but hip first.

The leg will be at an abnormal angle, the cat will not be able to put weight on the injured limb, they may also be meowing or thrashing in pain.

Is my 5 month old puppy's leg dislocated if she is limping on her right hind leg but when I felt her leg all over and applied pressure she didn't whine but when I pull her leg out she does?

A puppy's leg may not be dislocated if you don't feel anything out of place and it looks normal, but it may still be injured. Your puppy may just have a sore muscle, but she may also have a broken bone or other damage. Take her to a veterinarian if she continues to limp.

How can you tell if you have broken your leg?

It hurts. You can't bear weight on the leg. You cannot walk - your broken leg will trail behind you. The biggest indicator however, is that you cannot bear weight on leg that is broken. There are a number of other allied symptoms depending on how bad the break is and where it's located - which will probably be obvious to you.
