If this is a Harry Potter reference, as i assume it is, peeves is not a what but a who. He is a poltergeist that live at hogwarts continually annoying the occupents. At Christmas he hids in the suits of armour and sing chistmas carols with naughty lyrics. He will pour water on your head and if you are out of bed at night, as harry has found out, he will rat you out. Filch hates him and the only time he has taken any orders was when the weasley twins left hogwarts he helped make life miserable for umbridge. Its a pity he was left out of the movies, as he is a thoroughly amusing character.
