A Compact Disk Read Only Memory disk cannot be used as a virtual memory, because it is a read-only memory format. Virtual Disk is a method of using the Random Access Memory on the motherboard to simulate a Random Access disk drive, but with much faster access times than is possible for a peripheral device. (One which is not on the motherboard.) Windows uses a virtual memory routine to set aside part of the hard disk drive for additional storage in case the onboard RAM becomes too full to allow rapid processing. Data which is not being manipulated immediately is moved to this section of the hard disk, and then moved back when the processor is ready for it. This allows faster multitasking when using a machine with a small amount of onboard RAM.

Why do you delete upper and lower filters?

Deleting Upper and Lower Filters is a way to solve problems related to viewing the CD/DVD Drive on My Computer. It is common to do this when a person can no longer see the Drive on My Computer, and/or the CD/DVD ROM Drive does not read or write any disc that is inserted into the drive. Upper and Lower Filters are codes in the Registry Editer that represent other, possibly virtual CD/DVD ROM drives that may have been installed from the internet that are corrupted. Deleting the Filters deletes a block on the original CD/DVD ROM drive that is caused by the corrupted programs. In other words, Upper and Lower Filters block the CD/DVD ROM drive from working properly.

Which drive is a CD Rom Drive?

If you know that you computer has a CD-ROM drive navigate to My Computer and look for an image (icon) of a CD or the name CD-ROM drive. That is likely to be the CD-ROM drive, although it may have additonal capabilities such as DVD ROM, DVD-RW etc. In a computer using Windows the CD-Rom drive is usually given the drive letter 'D'. If the images/icons names are no help right click the icons one by one and check the resulting menu. You're looking for the icon with the menu optiomn eject. That will be the CD-ROM drive. If you are looking to buy one make sure you specifically ask for a CD-ROM drive, usless you need additonal capabilities as above, and specify whether you need it internal or external to the computer.
