Contact your local police. If it has been reported stolen to the police they can find out.
After you report it to the police, you wait and hope.
Report it stolen.
Was thinking of buying a used firearm to defend my home from invasion. But how do I know if its stolen? Call your local police department and have them check it in NCIC. You may have to bring it in so they can confiscate it if it is stolen.
Sorry- there IS no website where you can positively determine that a firearm is not stolen. Law enforcement uses the NCIC system, but that is NOT available to private persons. Local law enforcement MAY be willing to run the serial number of the gun through NCIC, but will need to have possession of the gun while doing it. In case it IS stolen, they have it.
No standard method- as a private citizen, you cannot access the police computer database of stolen property.
If it's been sold off by the pawn shop already, you don't. The shop isn't going to disclose to you who they were sold to.
Over the years there have been on or two sites that listed what you are looking for. However, they are only as good as what is reported. Your best bet is to ask you local police to run the sn. Again, it could still be stolen and just not reported.
How do I find out if my iden has been Stolen or if anyone is using my information
how to find my stolen car when i have the thiefs name Call the police.
No- because that is in a database not open to the public. However, a law enforcement officer CAN access that information. They will want to have the firearm in hand when they do it, in the event it IS stolen, they will return it to the rightful owner.
if you reported firearm stolen to police , and police have recovered it, they should notify you. if firearm is in a pawn shop for example, the only way you will know is if the pawn shop finds it listed by police, but dont hold your breath waiting for a pawn shop to offer it up. pawn shop paid for it and will want their money back. If the weapon has been legally pawned (which requires a considerable amount of paperwork) or sold and it is traced to the purchaser by authorities, the purchaser must relinquish the weapon upon receiving a writ of possession from authorities. The purchaser of the weapon cannot seek reimbursement from the legal owner or anyone else, and depending upon the circumstances he or she may be charged with dealing in stolen property. ask your local Police to run the serial number through the NCIC computer network..
