You have to dial a different prefix from Mexico.

Keep in mind that the calls are not free like they are in the US; you will be charged the usual international direct dial rate.

To call a US toll free number from Mexico, dial as follows:

800 numbers Dial 001-880-then the number

866 numbers Dial 001-883-then the number

877 numbers Dial 001-882-then the number

888 numbers Dial 001-881-then the number

Mexico is homologating its emergency services to a 911 number. Nowadays, it only works for cities on the following states: Baja California, Coahuila, Colima, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Durango, Guanajuato, Morelos, Nayarit, Nuevo Leon, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Sonora, Tlaxcala, Puebla and Zacatecas. The remaining states still use the 066 or 088.

By the end of June 2017, all Mexico should be able to use the 911 as emergency services phone number.
