I don't know how to check the timing belt, but when I took my car to the dealer and asked them how often they need to be changed, they said never. The car doesn't have a timing belt per se. They mentioned something about the powertrain engine.... blah blah blah, but the bottom line was there isn't one and whatever does the job of the timing belt in this car, does not have to be replaced.

Answer 2: A 2004 Pacifica definitely has a timing belt. The 2004 only came with the 3.5L engine which uses a belt. The owners manual states it should be checked at 70,000 then every 15,000 miles after that. I would recommend just changing the belt around 100,000 miles. My Pacifica has 125,000 on the original and still going, but I am changing it this weekend. The miles add up so fast. To check the belt requires taking the front engine covers off, which is kind of a big job. If you have the covers off it is not much more to replace it. Also, the water pump is driven by this belt, so it should be replaced at the same time. This is a reasonably difficult job. So if you don't understand how to time an engine I would recommend taking it to a knowledgeable mechanic. MGL
