You need to set the printer up first to the same SSID (your network name) and password (passphrase).
It's basically the same steps as hooking up another computer to your network.
The main problems are, misspelled passwords, wrong encryption (all should be WPA2), make sure DHCP is enabled if you have a router, etc.
Go to the printer manufacturers support site and download the owners manual for your model printer and also download the latest drivers for the version MacOS that your using. Macs have generic drivers for most of the printers so it should work once you get it networked, if you need more features or options then the Manufacturers drivers will give them. If you can, download and install the drivers first for the best problem solving.
