The 1995 Riviera is a odd year, because it has the OBD2 connector with an OBD1 system. Most of your over the counter code scanners won't work for this car. The Actron 9150 claims it will work. The best price I've seen them is on eBay. You can find the connector if you look under the steering wheel. It should be about 12 pin connector. You can verify the OBD system by looking at the sticker under the hood. I have the same car, and same problem.

I'll have to watch the movie again, but online pictures I've seen of it make me believe it is basically a 1972 Buick Riviera that has been customized. The front fenders appear to be from a '72 Buick Riviera, the grill looks '72 Riviera, basic shape of the front end looks '72 Riviera.A view of the rear half of the car would be most telling. Not being able to find a full side shot online, this is a best guess, but it is definitely early '70's General Motors, likely in the Buick bloodline.
