From the minute their eggs are laid until they reach the sea, the sea turtles have only an average of 1% chance of surviving, because the mother only lays her eggs (she doesn't care for her young). They can be dug up and eaten by predators (coyotes, foxes) as eggs, and even when they hatch, they can be eaten by predators (foxes, seagulls).
