Well several things are done, visual examination will show if the bone is obviously broken. X-rays will also show fractures in bones. If an x-ray unit is not available, lets say at a crash scene in the mountains, old school doctors would use a tuning fork to check for fractures in extremities. The tuning fork would be struck and held against the ends of the bones at elbows and joints. The vibrations travel through the bone, if a break is in a specific bone, the crack will vibrate causing a painful sensation indicating a break or fracture.

It will hurt really bad and you will cry and cry and if the person you are with asks " do you want to go to the Hospital"? You will say, "Yes" probly

I beg to differ. I think it depends on severity of break. I had a hairline fracture across my ankle at 13. I heard the crack and went to step and fell flat on my face. It didn't hurt when I broke it. I just couldn't feel it. The next day, however, I had a goose egg on the side and it hurt like hell when the doctor pushed it back into position to put a cast on it.

i think how your doctor knows when a bone is broken when you tell your doctor that something hurts and especially tell him the reason. you need to tell him were it hurts. then the doctor will hive you some x-rays and if he sees a broken bone on the x-ray then that means that you have a broken bone.

Well If You Did It Would Be Very Swallen And It Would Hurt To Move It Back And Fourth But Even If You Think You Didnt You Should Talk To A Docter And Ask For An X-ray To See If You Broke, Sprained, Or Fracured It. If You Did No Problem Just Be Calm And Rest It. If You Need Any Help Contact Me By Calling The Pennsylvania Hostital And ask For Nurse Samantha Weathers!! Have A Good Day.

There are many ways to find out that a bone is broken (e.g. the limb bends where it should not, pieces of bone sticking out of the limb, surgical inspection) but the most commonly used way now to determine where and how badly a bone is broken (especially when it is not as obvious as listed above) is by using an x-ray machine to take photographs of the bone inside the body.

A doctor usually determines whether a bone is broken or not by the use of an X-Ray.
