He was sexually abused by is Aunt Helen but had blocked it out until the very end of the book.
***I believe, he got sexually abused by his Aunt Helen. The truth came out through a technique used by psychiatrists wherein they kind of put the patient into a trance and you sort of unveils all your past through it. The thing that provoked Charlie into getting to that revelation was when he and Sam was about to have sex.
I'm not really sure about why it all happened after the whole thing with Sam.. but I'm sure you remember the part about his parents finding him naked, watching thetvwithout it being turned on and not being able to "snap him out" of it..? do you remember the dream he had about his aunt helen? when he was doing those things with sam, that's what caused him to have that dream about his aunt helen...and the dream was what caused him to realize that he was molested by his aunt helen when he was younger. I'm not really sure if Sam has much to do with it.. but it might be because she's what caused him to have the dream which made him remember what happened. and also, since she's gone off now.. he doesn't have her to talk to and make things better. so it's like everything is just.. caving in all at once, you know? and I don't think he really realizes what his aunt did until he's in the mental hospital..I think that just.. after he had the dream, he knows SOMETHING iswrong but he just doesn't know what.
