Quarish at the time was a tribe whom no other tribe would want to mess around with. But when they were brought under the banner of Islam, the other tribes in Arabia knew that they weren't a match for the Muslims.
And Islam has NEVER allowed forced conversions or violence. How do you expect Muhammad (peace be upon him) to force people into Islam? Islam is a beautiful religion and people in Arabia realised it so they converted BY CHOICE not by force.
1. The prophet Muhammad PBUH was always teaching the Muslims that all the people are equal in humanity & that they are all the sons of Adam PBUH who was created from dust & that all kinds of oppression are strictly forbidden against any human. He assured these golden rules & others in His last address to Muslims in the valediction pilgrimage, this is regarding to all people regardless of their religions, races, colours...etc.
Also , Allah says in the Holy Quran:
"O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things). "
(Holy Quran : Chapter 49 : verse 13 ) Al-Hujurat (The Private Apartments, The Inner Apartments)
as you see, this is a strong evidence that Islam is a universal, fair & tolerant religion.
2. Prophet Muhammad PBUH unified the Islamic nation by teaching that Being a Muslim creates another kind of brotherhood which is the brotherhood in belief or in Islam , in addition to the brotherhood of humanity & this will consequently create for the Muslim more duties & responsibilities to the other Muslims ( & thus more rights for himself required from other Muslims ,as he is a Muslim too)
Allah says :
"The Believers are but a single Brotherhood: So make peace and reconciliation between your two (contending) brothers; and fear Allah, that ye may receive Mercy. "
( Holy Quran : Chapter 49 :verse 10 )Al-Hujurat (The Private Apartments, The Inner Apartments)
The brotherhood which the prophet Muhammad PBUH commanded to create between the Muslims who imigrated from Mecca (Muhajreen) & the Muslims of Al-Madena " Yathreb" who were callad (Al-ansar) is a grand famous example in the Islamic history on the brotherhood of Islam, together they shared their money, works, houses & many fields of life. It was a successful sample on this brotherhood & a lesson for all the succeeding Islamic generations forever.
3. The Islamic community since the dawn of history of Islam has always been successfuly able to include people of different races not only Arabs of different tribes. We all know Bilal Ben Rabah ( the blackish slave from Ethiopia or Al-Habashah as it was called in Arabic )who became later a master with his faith, we know Salman Al-Farsi (from Persia) , Suhaib Al-Roomi (from the Romans) & alot of Arabs such as Khaled Ben Al-Waleed from the tribe of Bani Makhzoom & Ali Ben Abi Taleb from the tribe of Quraesh (particulary Bani Hashem)...etc. All those companions may Allah be pleased with them & many others are examples on the harmony, respect & brotherhood in the Islamic community.
Allah says:
"Should they intend to deceive thee,- verily Allah sufficeth thee: He it is That hath strengthened thee with His aid and with (the company of) the Believers;
. And (moreover) He hath put affection between their hearts: not if thou hadst spent all that is in the earth, couldst thou have produced that affection, but Allah hath done it: for He is Exalted in might, Wise. "
(Holy Quran : Chapter 8 : verses 62 - 63 )Al-Anfal (Spoils Of War, Booty)
4.Today the Islamic community is not different, Muslims are from everywhere in the world, India, China,Indonesia,Europe,America....& everywhere not only in the Arabian world. This also assures that the Islamic religion is a universal, fair & tolerant religion.
It's the last message from Allah to all human kinds without any exceptions.
Allah says about the prophet Muhammad PBUH :
"We sent thee not, but as a Mercy for all creatures."
( Holy Quran : Chapter 21 : verse 107 )Al-Anbiya' (The Prophets)
It's good to tell that among all the Muslims today, Arabs are only about 20%
- The points related to this question are really much more than those points mentioned , actually they were only quick highlights on it, I hope they may be of help.

Arabia. Muhammad is the central prophet of the Islamic faith. Muhammad was commanded by Allah (God) to recite the words that would later become Islam's holy book, the Qur'an (or Koran).
