Police detectives, yes. Private detectives, it depends. Some states allow it. Some private detectives don't want it. Concealed carry permits are available in most states if you can have a clean background check and can demonstrate some level of proficiency with a firearm.

If they are also sworn law enforcement officers, yes, they do. However, many agencies employ civilian technicians to to this kind of work. They are generally NOT armed except perhaps with some non-lethal device (pepper spray) if at all.

Yes and no. Carrying a firearm used to be mandatory, now it is as the crime scene investigator's discretion. Most do not carry a firearm due to the heavy police presence at crime scenes.
