HP baked beans do NOT contain gluten - it clearly states this on the tin. As for other brands its very difficult to tell. Some use a thickening agent in the tomato sauce which could possibly contain gluten. If it does not state "gluten free" then I would always be wary.

"Heinz baked beans include sugar, which is gluten."

The correct answer to your question is "maybe". The recipe for Heinz baked beans is a secret, but there should be a minimal statement on the can about the contents. However, since gluten is considered to be a 'protein' it probably doesn't have to be mentioned separately from the the protein content of the beans.

The statement above is a total nonsense...It's true that there is sugar in baked beans, but there are many types of sugar...NONE of them resembles gluten. They are much closer to 'starches', actually...

As with any processed or canned food, the manufacturers of the goods will use whatever complies with the law at the lowest possible price. I'm guessing, from my experience of baked bean recipes, that the gluten content is so close to zero as to be insignificant. If it's important to you, for health reasons, you really need to get someone from Heinz to guarantee that they're gluten-free.

Best wishes!

This isn't likely, but there could be a chance nonetheless. If you read the ingredients and find anything resembling grains, then it would contain gluten traces.

Yes, it is. I had the same question. I was concerned about the "modified food starch" that is in the list of ingredients. This is basically hidden gluten, unless it specifies that it is modified corn or potato starch. I googled it and all of the sites say it is gluten free.

Is balsamic vinegar gluten free?

Yup, gluten free. Sometimes the yeast starters that ferment other types of vinegar are made with malted barley (contains gluten) but not any apple ciders. They add dried yeast to ferment the sugars from the apple juice, then the acetobacter is added to convert the alcohol into acedic acid (vinegar). Enjoy it!
