From my experience, robotics engineering usually falls under a specialization in either mechanical or electrical engineering depending on what portion you want to focus more on. Robotics from the electrical side focus more heavily on the computer coding and electrical systems where as robotics from the mechanical side might be called Mechatronics at some schools. The main difference is that a robotics engineer is going to focus much more on instrumentation, electronics, and coding of mechanical parts while mechanical engineering gives you an overview of circuits but does not force someone to take that path as part of their education.

I guess in short, mechanical engineering is a more broad major than robotic engineering.

Yes there ia a difference. Mechanical engineers are the creators behind the systems that mechanics operate :-)------

I Profess the definition as following :

A Mechanical Engineer has got the systematic learning of the Principles of the Basic Sciences like Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry unto the applications to the existentialism in order to upgrade and graduate oneself further absolved into the Society of the Working class for the Accepted working methods and practices whereby one shall engage in the work through self or with an Organisational Behaviour towards the application specialization. He or she , a Mechanical Engineer applies the thoughts to become Application Specialist.

A Mechanic is an outcome of the the societal unsystematic or apprenticeship / or well trained under the Better Specialist of the Particular Mechanical Engineering functional discipline towards the work attitudes developed in the open environment where further under the controlled guidance and manuals he or she is made to work.
