Well, darling, a locust is like the flashy cousin of a grasshopper, causing agricultural havoc in swarms, while a cockroach is the ultimate Survivor, chilling in your kitchen and giving zero cares. So, in a nutshell, locusts are crop-destroying drama queens, and cockroaches are the uninvited guests that just won't leave.

Locusts and cockroaches are both insects belonging to the order Orthoptera and Blattodea, respectively. However, they have distinct differences in behavior, morphology, and ecological roles. Locusts are known for their ability to undergo swarming behavior under certain conditions, while cockroaches are typically solitary insects. Additionally, locusts have powerful hind legs adapted for jumping and flying, whereas cockroaches have flattened bodies suited for hiding in narrow spaces.

Crickets can be omnivorous whereas locusts are herbivorous. Crickets are also nocturnal while locusts are active any time of the day. Crickets also have longer antennae and ovipositors in addition to their ears being on their forelegs rather than their abdomens.

"Locusts are part of a large group of insects commonly called grasshoppers which have big hind legs for jumping. Locusts belong to the family called Acrididae [,short-horned grasshoppers]. Locusts differ from grasshoppers in that they have the ability to change their behaviour and habits and can migrate over large distances. As Desert Locusts increase in number and become more crowded, they change their behavior from that of acting as an individual (solitarious) insect to that as acting as part of a group (gregarious). The appearance of the locust also changes: solitary adults are brown whereas gregarious adults are pink (immature) and yellow (mature). Up until 1921, it was thought that the Desert Locust was actually two different species of locusts." http://www.fao.org/ag/locusts/en/info/info/faq/

The main difference between cockroaches and crickets is in their body morphology. Cockroaches are flat while crickets are more triangular in profile.

A locust likes to live outdoors and only comes around every seven years. A cockroach likes to live indoors and are always around.
