That the Vietnam War was only a continuation of the Asian portion of WWII deserves examination. The French had difficulty in removing the Japnese occupation forces from their former colony. At the same time there was resistance by the Vietnamese to the return of French control. When the French were ousted, the Geneva agreement of 1954 was meant to be a temporary solution to the problems dividing the North and the South. A major problem confronted those living in the South. Power sharing was not possible between the Catholic minority and the Buddhist majority, and that conflict led to a second Civil War and a power vacumn.

The Viet War was NOT part of WW2. As a matter of fact; thanks to WWII and the invention of the atomic bomb (nuclear weapons) the Vietnam War had to be fought the way it was...a limited war (limited to non-atomic weapons).
