Yes Al Capone started the first soup kitchen.
He started it because he wanted to clean up his shady image. Capone's kitchen served three meals a day to ensure that everyone who had lost a job could get a meal.
Oh yes, Al Capone helped the poor by working at a soup kitchen, though he had many faults and had committed many crimes.
He was a homicidal maniac, or he knew a bunch of them, other than that and being a criminal he was a pretty good guy. Actually, Capone was a product of the ridiculous passing of the 18th Amendment. He was a petty crook but took full advantage of the circumstances presented him. Was he bad.....probably no more than Joseph Kennedy and others of that era. Capone also set up soup kitchens in many Chicago neighborhoods during the outset of the Great Depression.
Campbell's produced mainly canned tomatoes and vegetables before soup, soup not being as popular in America as in Europe in 1869. The process for successfully canning condensed soup was created in 1899. The first flavours of Campbell's condensed soup were Tomato, Consommé, Vegetable, Chicken, and Oxtail; all originally released at the same time.
Perhaps it was his brazen contempt for prohibition. It could have been the St. Valentines Day Massacre. It helped that he played the role of a modern day Robin Hood with his support for Soup Kitchens.
Hitler didn't suffer that kind of poverty. He said he was desperately poor, but we've only got his word for it.
Oh yes, Al Capone helped the poor by working at a soup kitchen, though he had many faults and had committed many crimes.
