You can crochet a chain stitch with your fingers, but doing other stitches will be impossible unless your work is very very loose. It is technically possible to crochet with a knitting needle, but it's not really worth all the fiddling and frustration.
Other contributors have said:not for me! you weave the yarn through your finger when your using the hook, and you can't do that when the knots on your finger. plus the hook has to twist, but theres no hook on your finger. although one time i crocheted a whole scarf with my fingers.
I think you might be able to crochet with a broken hook--depending on where the hook is broken.
The parts of a crochet hook, from point of hook to end of handle would be:
point of hook
hook
throat
shaft
thumb rest
handle
If the hook itself is broken, it wouldn't work, because you have no way to "hook" the material and bring it through a stitch. If you have the hook, throat and some of the shaft, you possibly could still crochet--depending on your dexterity.
I would suggest though that you just get another hook. Hooks are generally not too expensive.

No, you can only crochet with a crochet hook. Answer Crochet is done with crochet hooks (they come in many sizes) not knitting neeldes. But you can also use your fingers (finger crochet) or there is also some thing called Knooking which uses a tool that has a crochet hook on one end and a knitting needle point on the other.
The word "crochet" originated from the French word meaning "to hook."
In UK sizes, a 2mm crochet hook is a 14, it doesn't not have a US size equivalent. Here is a chart with crochet hook conversions from metric to US to UK.

It's exactly how it sounds. After starting the next row, put your hook in the chain of the next single crochet stitch, yarn over the hook and draw the hook through the loops. If you're still stuck there are some good instructional videos on you tube.
