personally i wouldn't risk it. my friend did once and she has a teeny-tiny back pack, she needed to by a whole new one!

for me i would:

instantly through it into the washer when i got home from school

and then when that's over i would air dry it.

that's how i would wash and dry my back pack with OUT taking a risk
