SD Alcohol 38-B is mostly ethanol, but certainly not ethanol derived from grapes or dates. Rather, it is probably derived from the much cheaper corn. "SD" stands for "specially denatured." Denaturing happens to alcohol to make it unfit to drink, often by adding methanol, which is poisonous.
