Stomach pains are normal in early pregnancy as long as you're not bleeding or cramping uncontrollably. It's called Round Ligament pain, and it's due to your uterus stretching to accommodate your new baby. I'm 25 weeks pregnant, and for me, the stomach pains were the most uncomfortable in the beginning. It's a scary feeling because you're not sure if something might be wrong, especially if it's your first. But rest easy, because it's all a part of your body physiologically preparing for something amazing.

During the late stages of pregnancy you can have upper abdominal pain, but the most common pain is heart burn. Talk to your doctor and if becomes severe, call your doctor right away.

This depends upon type, duration and severity of the pains. Mild uterine contractions are normal phenomena in later months of pregnancy.
