The British Isles are locates to the northwest of continental Europe. The Isles are made up of two main islands, Ireland & Great Britain. There are other islands that include the Shetland Isles
Pedantically, there is only one crown dependencies in the British Isles. There are actually three Crown Dependencies: the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. Jersey and Guernsey are collectively called the 'Channel Isles'. They are usually NOT considered part of the British Isles, because they are off the coast of France. That leaves only one Crown Dependency which is part of the British Isles, the Isle of Man.
Scotland is in the northern part of the British Isles off the West Coast of Europe.Italy is in South Central Europe, on the Mediteranean Coast.
It's not a common swimming distance; to walk around the British mainland coast is around 9,500 miles. But the British Isles includes Eire, the Channel Isles and the Isles of Scilly, so I would imagine around 15-20,000 miles. To put it into context, this is roughly equivalant to swimming the Atlantic both ways.
