By wavelength do you mean the wireless frequencies? If so this is not a brand dependent thing, it is carrier and phone model dependent.

There are Far too many variables to list everything here but you can find the info you are looking at here:

For GSM Band Cell Phones

Or

For CDMA/UMTS Band Cell Phones

You can, but I've recently tried doing so and have been waiting for 18 hours. The customer service rep said 2-24hours before Straight Talk will release the number. Although, Straight Talk has been known to not release a number to keep customers. The technical answer would be "yes" but logically, I'm not sure.

There is no such thing as a CDMA card so there is no card for a CDMA device to accept. With a CDMA device you have to contact the service provider and give them the new device's ESN and once they have that changed in their system they will walk you through manually programming your new device.

UMTS stands for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System. UMTS is one of the emerging mobile phone technologies known as third-generation, or 3G. Third-generation systems are designed to include such traditional phone tasks as calls, voice mail, and paging, but also new technology tasks such as Internet access, video, and SMS, or text messaging. One of the main benefits of UMTS is its speed. Current rates of transfer for broadband information are 2 Mbits a second. This speed makes possible the kind of streaming video that can support movie downloads and video conferencing. In a sense, UMTS makes it possible for you to enjoy all of the functionality of your home computer while you are roaming. By combining wireless and satellite cellular technologies, UMTS takes advantage of all existing options to result in the Holy Grail of 3G presentation: seamless transitions between WiFi and satellite. UMTS went live as a network for the first time in Japan in 2001. Austria had its own network two years later. A handful of other European countries joined the UMTS bandwagon in the next two years, with South Africa and a few other African countries soon following suit. The U.S. has employed UMTS networks in several large cities, and the number is steadily growing. UMTS is based on the Global System for Mobile (GSM) standard, which is the gold standard in Europe and more than 120 countries worldwide. In fact, UMTS is sometimes referred to as 3GSM. The two systems are not compatible, however. UMTS is incompatible with GSM. Some phones are dual GSM/UMTS phones, but unless that exciting new mobile phone or handset that you can't wait to get your hands on has that kind of duality built in, you will only be able to utilize one mode, the one that came with the device. As UMTS gains in credibility and functionality, experts believe it will overtake GSM as the industry standard. UMTS is already able to operate at a higher frequency than GSM.

  • CDMA and GSM are Radio technologies and mobile Phone is just an Antenna to receive these Radio Signals. Since both the technologies work on different frequency range and has different modulation shemes therfore the mobile phones for both are different.
  • Apart from this 3G tehchnology which is combination of both GSM and CDMA (WCDMA) is compatible with both GSM and CDMA. So a 3G mobile can serve for both GSM and CDMA radio signals.
  • SIM (Subcriber Idendity Module) is consists of Credential for network authorization. Since Both GSM and CDMA technologies has different Authorization functions and parameters hence both SIMs are different. Note: In CDMA technology SIM is often called as RUIM (Removable User Idendity Module).
  • CDMA uses Different Frequencies than GSM. CDMA also does not require a SIM card.
  • Now some companies do provide SIM cards for CDMA connections also, such as Reliance communications and TATA Indicomm in India.
  • CDMA can hold more calls per channel on their towers, while GSM drops alot of calls. That is why people are always complaining about T-Mobile and At&t dropped calls. GSM is used internationally while CDMA is mostly used in the domestic United States. CDMA carriers are Verizon, Alltel, Sprint, Cricket....while GSM carriers here in the U.S. are T-Mobile and At&t.
