No, Victor Buono was not Italian.

Specifically, Victor Charles Buono (1938-1982) was an actor who accepted film and television roles. He was born in San Diego, California to Myrtle Belle (1909-1979) and Victor Francis Buono (1907-1981). So he properly would be considered an Italian American.

There are two ways to approach this. The first would be to say that Buono would have continued to kill with or without his cousin. It is not uncommon for serial killers to 'lay low' temporarily to avoid detection. There is also the possiblity that as Buono grew older his passion for murder would have begun to wane. Buono was at least 15 years older than Kenneth.

The second possiblity is that the combined element of Buono and Bianchi was the driving force for their crimes. Buono may have never killed anybody alone. But the two personalities together were the right combination for murder. Examples of this can be found in the partnership of Leonard Lake and Charles Ng and the team of Wm. Bonner and Norris.

The bottom line is we will probably never know for sure. Buono died in a California prison and Bianchi will also die behind bars in Walla Walla, Washington.
