What was The Ramones first gig?
The Ramones were all from the Queens district of New York. Tommy Erdelyi (Tommy Ramone) and John Cummings (Johnny) met in high school in the 60's and formed a band together called the Tangerine Puppets.
A few years after that broke up Johnny met Douglas Colvin (Dee Dee) as they worked near each other and after many lunch break discussions the two decided to form a band. Johnny's old friend Tommy was enthusiatic about this and became their manager and advisor. The group started practising with Jeff Hyman (Joey) on drums (as he had recently been fired from a band called Sniper) until it was decided Dee Dee's vocals weren't strong enough and Joey was moved to lead vocals.
The group auditioned many drummers but couldn't find one who played with the simplicity they required. Eventually Tommy, tired of trying to coach new drummers, decided to teach himself to play instead.
That stayed the same until 1978 when Tommy became weary of the constant touring in unpleasant conditions and retired from the group to concentrate on studio work and was replaced with Voidoids drummer Marc Bell (Marky).

WRONG. The Ramones did NOT write My Sharona. The Knack did. Last answer is right. Strange that it is always attributed to the Ramones but My Sharona was written by Doug Fieger of the Knack and appeared on their album, Get the Knack". If you don't own this album I would recommend it along with the better "but the Little Girls Understand" On the trivia front there really is a Sharona, song was written about a girl Fieger was enamored with called Sharona Alperin who has since appeared on later versions of the cover.

No, they were not. The very, very first punk bands (what some people call "proto-punk") were the Stooges and the MC5 from Detroit.
The first punk scene got started in New York City. The name "punk" was coined in New York City by writer Legs McNeil. He and a whole bunch of other artists and musicians were hanging out at the nightclubs CBGB's and Max Kansas City. These two clubs became the epicenter of the first punk scene. CBGB's and Max's were basically the petri dishes in which punk rock formed and grew. Although the very, very first punk bands were from Detroit, punk first became a musical movement in New York City.
The Ramones were not the first punk band from New York City, either. The New York Dolls were playing together about 2 to 3 years or so before the Ramones formed. The New York Dolls would probably most accurately be called the first New York punk band.
Some people call the Velvet Underground the first New York punk band. However, Lou Reed (singer/songwriter for the Velvet Underground) has consistently denied that his band was a punk band.

I think they were all from NY (well, the original line up was anyway), but Dee Dee was born in Fort Lee, Virginia and raised in Berlin, Germany. When he was 15, he, his mom, and his sister moved to Forest Hills, Queens.
