Not all people who work within a public library have a library science degree. Different positions within the library will require different levels of education.
Pages, for example, usually only need a high school diploma. Sometimes libraries will also have high school students working as student pages.
Library assistants may need either a high school diploma or a library technology degree.
Public libraries often have positions for people with other backgrounds, such as computing science. For these positions, a library science degree is not required.
Otherwise, most other positions require a Master of Library and Information Sciences (MLIS) degree.
