1980The Very Rich Hours of Count Von Stauffenberg. West achieves his first substantial popular and critical success for his imaginative exploration of the German plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler. It is the first in a series of admired animations of history and historical figures, including Rat Man of Paris (1986), Lord Byron's Doctor (1989), The Women of Whitechapel and Jack the Ripper (1992), The Tent of Orange Mist (1995), and Sporting with Amaryllis (1997). The British-born West became a U.S. citizen in 1971.
