Yes, there are ligers. The Liger is a hybrid cross between a male lion and a female tiger (i.e, Panthera leo × Panthera tigris). A liger resembles a lion with diffused stripes. They are the largest cats in the world, although the Siberian Tiger is the largest "pure" taxon. Ligers and tigers enjoy swimming, whereas lions do not. A similar hybrid, the offspring of a male tiger and a female lion is called a tigon. See links for more information.

The liger can be described taxonomically as a cross between Panthera Leo (the lion) and Panthera Tigris (the tiger).
There is no standard binomial name for the liger, as ligers are hybrid animals, and animal hybrids are currently excluded from the scope of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (under section 1.3.3).
Under older rules, though, (such as those adopted by the International Zoological Congress of 1892) a liger could be referred to as "Panthera Leo × Panthera Tigris". Though such formulaic names are no longer official, similar formulas are still used for plant hybrids, so the × convention may be recognizable if its use is necessary.
