There have been a string-no a pile-up of novels dealing with various types of vehicular accidents- airplane crashes, auto mishaps and so on and they usually get on the collective die-ography bandwagon of sparked conversations between members of the affected vehicle"s manifest- I am familiar with the Crash Club which is a sickening bit of small town Americana. Set in the late fifties- by author Henry Gregor Felsen, it deals with a bizarre teen-age organization called the Crash club, the novel climaxes in a sort of demolition derby that kills one character, hospitalizes several, and effectively destroys the whole premise of the Crash Club, a sort of one-pun joke- the fender-bender idea, is taken way-way out of context. An odd social fitment, up to a point, at least the demolition derby portion of the movie American Graffiti was inspired buy this story, but this was never admitted. A nervous wreck indeed. It is doubtful any organization as the crash club ever existed, certainly not to be approved of by the safety councils, etc.
