The purpose of Newspeak, as described in George Orwell's novel "1984," is to limit freedom of thought by restricting language and eliminating words that could be used to express dissent or rebellion against the ruling party. By controlling language, the party seeks to control and manipulate the thoughts and beliefs of the population.

As described by Winston's friend Syme, a society that operates around the language Newspeak would have no capacity for rebellious thought. Limiting the language limits the words one can use in thought, which, in turn, narrows the consciousness.

This quote can be found in Part I, Chapter V of George Orwell's "1984." In this chapter, Syme explains to Winston that the purpose of Newspeak is to eliminate words and concepts that could potentially challenge the dominance of the Party, thus restricting the range of thought and making rebellious thoughts impossible to articulate.

2 answers

Language is one of the theme in 1984. The party make use of language to control the society. Through Newspeak, language is being cut down, hence it reduces the ability for people to express their feelings. Just like what was said the novel, newspeak is the only language where vocabulary is shrinking everyday. Without suitable words to express themselves, the party is able to suppress the people's emotions.

It's "newspeak", meaning that they want to eradicate the original language and most of it's vocabulary and replace it with simple words. For example worse would mean plus-bad in newspeak. worst would mean plus-plus-bad.

Why?

The idea behind this is that if society doesn't know a word for a deed, they will not be able to do it.

For example - if you wouldn't know the word racism - would you practise racism? In Orwell's work it would be more likley words like putsch or rebellion.

If only the leader knows these words, it gives him incredible power to control society.

1 answer

He occasionally deliberately lets Standard English words slip through unnoticed when he is meant to be converting them into 'Newspeak', the form of compacted and limited language that the regime favours because it limits people from expressing their dissent against the regime into words.

1 answer

George Orwell criticizes the government's control over society through the manipulation of language in "1984." The government's use of Newspeak, a language designed to limit free thought and expression, shows how language can be used to distort reality and suppress dissent. By controlling language, the government is able to control the thoughts and behaviors of its citizens.

The Ministry of Pleny, nicknamed Miniplenty in Newspeak, is in charge of supplies and rationing policies. The department also releases updates on production and the standard of living that people in Oceania experience. It is shown very early in the novel that the Ministry of Plenty does not function well and lies about the production figures.

Some of the words created by George Orwell in "1984" that have been added to the English language include "doublethink," "newspeak," "thoughtcrime," and "proles." These terms are often used to describe concepts related to totalitarianism, propaganda, and control of information.

1 answer

Most of these people have significance. For example, Syme plays a part in explaining the philosophy behind Newspeak and later serves as an example of vaporization. Parsons has significance in the way that he is the ideal citizen; completely under The Party's control. Other examples such as Ampleforth also have significance.

George Orwell wrote 1984 as a warning after World War II, with the intention of describing a society that he would never want to live the day to see. Unfortunatly, he knew that it was more of a precaution to say this is how life for some was like in Germany or the Soviet Union. Both of these places having been in power during his time he wrote this to show the rest of the world how it was too late for them, and coming nearer for everyone else. During the war, Orwell worked for the British Broadcasting Company, where he got the idea for newspeak.

If you are referring to Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984, Syme had worked with Winston at the Ministry of Truth, but one day, Syme just vanished. The party seems to have "vaporized" him. Winston had observed that Syme was too intelligent, too much of an intellectual, for his own good. The irony of what happened is that Syme was an expert on Newspeak, and caused thousands of words to vanish, but then, he himself became an "unperson" and he was made to vanish.

I think one can argue that the entire book is based upon paranoia, both by the government and by Winston. The government targets its party members out of suspicion that he/she is trying to bring down Big Brother when often, that person is completely innocent. So because they are so paranoid, they build a nation full of fear and create the Thought Police to try seek out any possible threat of treason, even when there may be nothing there. It is not necessarily the truth that there are people trying to bring them down, but it's the thought of it that drives them to drastic measures of interrogating, torturing, and killing its "dangerous" party members.

As for the people, they as a whole do not express as much paranoia because they are brainwashed from birth into thinking that the party always knows what's best and if the party says they did something wrong, then it must be true. But through Winston's eyes, he lives his life fearful that the Thought Police are out to get him and that one day, he will be "fixed." In the beginning of the book, he is so paranoid that the Thought Police will look through his things that he places white dust on his diary to let himself know that it was not touched (even though the party outsmarts him in the end anyway). Although Winston is constantly petrified that he will be caught, he still cannot control his impulses and goes against the party even though he eventually learns that his best efforts to remain safe will be useless in the end.

Winston Smith is the protagonist of the novel 1984 by George Orwell. He is an unhappy member of the Outer Party and a worker at the Ministry of Truth. Winston can see through the Ingsoc way of manipulating. He hates the Party and the Big Brother but can only does so secretly because expressing opposition in any slightest way would cost him his life.

Obama has 2 daughters and they are not adopted.

************

This is a blunt statement with overwhelming contrary evidence. Objectively commenting, please read on.

When, in history, has a proud mother, and husband, not had record of their childbearing shared days, especially in the career limelight when representing "Community", brimming with life and anticipation? Not a single photo in evidence for either M.O. pregnancy can be found on net searches and local political event photo ops, pre-Senatorial days 1-3 months before term dates. Nor can any lead be found on net for Birth specifics of hospital, rush to delivery, labor stories, as any proud mother would boast. What really lies behind a Mother's nature(and father's), obscured?? If there was some medical/hereditary factor which would have precluded natural child bearing, then that may be a better understandable truth, and God Bless adoption and family fulfillment...for the right reasons...love and future..

However, if it was an agendized marriage for a selected "Perfect Candidate" on track(as observed in their dating histories, relationships and how they were introduced via the Chicago Cotillion styled female group presentation,(all facts verifiable), then perchance, the genetic lineage of 50% Caucasian in Barry(Barack), and 12.5 % ?? in Michelle producing in even small chance, a very light, or even white child would have either upset the major plans of his backers, or become a life in silhouette Barack did not wish to endure...then shame on them. Either way, they are children and loved.

---

Before any intelligent conclusive statement can be made regarding the disposition of the Obama children's birth, explain this aberrant maternal, parental-to-be and political utilitarian photo op(next best to kissing a baby) behavior, scrubbing of documentation and diversity in maternal dues paid with pride. Then produce pictures of M.O. in a motherly way...twice. Otherwise, this is Unicorns' and Raiunbow time again on Fantasy Island (and possibly sham political marriage-as seen in many historic politicians) without an invitation to Noah's Cruise Lines from Mr Rourke..

Answers are asked for, not stories or presumptions. Try for truth. It's out there.

Show me normal Human Nature, and full pride in generations and their due.

---

I would responsibly define a proper end to this question when public evidence counters the points noted above. Why these key basic moments of pride in parentage have not brought question to others, hints of Newspeak ala Orwell 1984 for somebody's Party.

Communism is a type of totalitarianism. It has the following characteristics: a massive repression system run by a well established secret police forces, an official and far-reaching system for denunciatory activities, single party rule, censorship, imposition of an official ("the only correct") state ideology and appearance of newspeak.

Communism didn't lead to improve any aspect of life of it's citizens. Because of it the ideology (Marxism - Leninism) was the only legitimization of communism. The ideology was described as science theory and called scientific communism. The origin of communism was shown as unavoidable historical process. Scientific communism was proving, that communism is final stadium of society's development. Note, that communist ideology was only camouflage that helped introducing terror and controlling people. The ideology of equality and justice increased many people living in democratic countries accepted and supported communism.

Leninism the political and economic theories of Lenin which provided the guiding doctrine of the Soviet Union; the modification of Marxism by Lenin stressed that imperialism is the highest form of capitalism (which shifts the struggle from developed to underdeveloped countries)

While Marxism is a political & economic philosophy of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in which the concept of class struggle plays a central role in understanding society's allegedly inevitable development from bourgeois oppression under capitalism to a socialist and ultimately classless society.

Through systematic impoverishment of the masses, it creates a proletariat of exploited industrial workers who sell their labour as a marketable commodity. It is suggested that the proletariat will eventually rebel to emancipate mankind as a whole. This rebellion will put an end to all class distinction and all forms of exploitation. The sense of depersonalization and powerlessness felt by the working class will cease as the means of production become common property.

Stalinism is a method of rule, or policies, of Joseph Stalin in the Soviet Union and his imitators elsewhere in the Soviet bloc. On taking power, Stalin brooked no dissent from party policies, of which he assumed the role of sole infallible interpreter. He postponed the struggle for world proletarian revolution, focusing instead on "socialism in one country." He decreed the wholesale collectivization of Russian agriculture and a program of rapid industrialization, which, though broadly effective, resulted in the deaths of many millions.

Named after the Chinese revolution-ary and leader Mao Tse-Tung (or Mao Zedong, 1893-1976), Maoism is the transposition of the theory and practice of Marxism to apply to the conditions not of the urban proletariat, but of the Chinese peasantry. In some quarters in the West, especially during the late 1960s, it became optimistically regarded as the ultimate egalitarian and communitarian political ideal.

The doctrines of Mao Zedong, most notably the doctrine that a continuous revolution is necessary if the leaders of a communist state are to be kept in touch with the people
