Newark is the most populous city in the state of New Jersey, as nearly 300,000 residents live there. It is a predominately urban community that consists of dense residential areas, several commercial districts, and some industrial establishments. Most tourists that visit New York City are familiar with the city of Newark because it is home to the Newark Liberty International Airport. This is one of three major airports serving the New York Metropolitan Area, as more than 35 million passengers arrive here every year. Being New Jersey’s largest city, Newark is home to the state’s best art and entertainment scene. Located right across Military Park, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center offers a variety of fine performances ranging from ballet dances to orchestra concerts. Since 1997, this has been the perfect venue to attend for lovers of classical music and dance. Performances are held in three different settings known as Prudential Hall, Victoria Theater, and Chase Room. Each theater embodies classic European elegance, which is complimented well by great performers and a sophisticated audience.

The Newark Museum offers plenty of exhibitions for art lovers. Located along Washington Street, this museum is only a few blocks away from the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Inside the museum, visitors will find a diverse collection of art from all over the world including American, African, Asian, and European. The Prudential Center is another major venue in Newark. This sports arena is located within walking distance from the Newark Museum and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. With a seating capacity between 15,000 and 20,000, this arena hosts a variety of events. It is currently the official home ground of the New Jersey Devils ice hockey team, and the New Jersey Nets basketball team. Music concerts featuring pop and rock artists are also common events at the Prudential Center.

Food and Drink

Visitors of the previously mentioned Newark attractions don’t have to go far to find some great food and drinks. Downtown Newark has plenty of bars, delis, lounges, pubs, and restaurants to satisfy all tastes. The Spot Lounge and Arena Lounge feature light menus and great choices of alcoholic beverages, all in sophisticated atmospheres. You will also find fast food restaurants such as McDonald’s, Quizno’s, and Popeye’s Chicken. Other great dining options are at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Newark has a large business district that includes the presence of several companies such as IDT Corporation and Prudential Financial.
