A school master, is one of the great, rare horses that have been there, seen it, done it and bought the T-shirt!
They are usually older (but not always) horses, perhaps 12+ and are great if you are learning or perhaps just want to enjoy whichever discipline you partake in and not have to worry so much about what is going to happen next. Beware though even the school masters can have off days!.
Also, if you are thinking of buying a school master, ask the owners where he/she has competed locally, what success he has had, are they a member of a riding club if so then, get in touch with them and ask some questions.
Good luck and let me know if you want any more info. A school master is exactly that. . . a master of the school. Technically any level 3 or above dressage horse can be considered a school master provided it has an excellent understanding of the movements required and is sympathetic to the learning rider's mistakes willing to offer correct responses for relatively correct aids. A school master can be of any age and may have never been outside of a dressage arena. A horse who has "been there and done that" should not be called a schoolmaster unless it has also mastered the elements of the school horse i.e. a horse that has been everywhere and won everything is not a school master if you cannot put on a novice rider and perform basic movements such as shoulder in or half-pass fluidly and freely it is simply a horse with a lot of competition experience

Harness bells are small bells attached to the harness rope of a riding-horse which will tinkle as the horse rides or moves to warn others of its coming or its whereabouts. In Robert Frost's famous poem Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening we can read: "He gave his harness bells a shake, To ask if there is some mistake." The horse whose animal instincts are more sharp than man's sensed danger in staying in the snow-falling forest for long. So to rouse his master and to ask if there is some mistake, he gave his harness bells a shake which alone could he do, rather than felling his master from his back to rouse him from his revery. The sound of the horse bells were heard distinctly against the sweeping sound of easily flowing wind and down falling snow. The master was roused from his equestrian day dream and leading the horse continued on his journey. Harness bells in Poetry seem to have no other reference or relevance.

This is a story from 1001 Arabian nights, about a man who could understand the speech of animals.
The horse ridiculed the ass for working so hard while he (the horse) did no more than get ridden into town. He advised the ass to fend sickness and get out of work. The master hearing this lavished attention on the ass and hooked the horse up to the plow, told the workers to be sever with him. That night the horse reversed his influence and talked the ass back into labour with the suggestions of the slaughter house. There's more to the story concerning the man's wife and chickens....
