L'Hôtel de Bourgogne
Hôtel de Bourgogne, L'. The principal theatre of Paris in the 17th c. Situated on the right bank, it was built in 19548 for the Confrérie de la Passion, who performed mystery plays there during the 16th c., and then let it out to various companies, above all the Comédiens du Roi. Here, in far from convenient surroundings, Racine's tragedies were performed. Subsequently it passed to the Comédie-Italienne.
