The Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) knows it's not all good in the monkey world. The not-for-profit organization is dedicated to supporting the welfare of chimpanzees and other primates through education and public awareness. The group's main goals are to conserve primate habitat; promote an understanding of the interrelatedness of humans, animals, and the environment; increase non-invasive research on chimps and other primates; and improve the general welfare of chimpanzees and other animals. JGI has about 35 offices in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America including about 10 for child and teen program Roots & Shoots. The institute was founded in 1977 by Dr. Jane Goodall and Princess Genevieve di San Faustino.

Wikipedia: Jane Goodall Institute

The Jane Goodall Institute was founded by Jane Goodall and Genevieve, Princess di San Faustino, in 1977. In 1991, JGI launched its widest-reaching program: Roots & Shoots, a program about making positive change happen—for our communities, for animals and for the environment.

As JGI is a global institute, it has offices all over the world—as in Australia, Italy, Hong Kong—while the Gombe Stream Research Center is located at Tanzania.

The Jane Goodall Institute (Hong Kong) is one of the Asian branches dedicated to wildlife research, education and conservation. [1] In 2002, the Jane Goodall Institute Hong Kong was established as one of the local charities with the intention to motivate the Hong Kong public to show compassion and care for the community, animals and environment. (Perhaps Godall noticed that Hong Kong was incorporated into the People's Republic of China in 1997 and is no longer a British colony.)

Mission

The Jane Goodall Institute advances the power of individuals to take informed and compassionate action to improve the environment of all living things.

Objectives

  • Increase primate habitat conservation
  • Increase awareness of, support for and training in issues related to our relationship with each other, the environment and other animals (leading to behavior change)
  • Expand non-invasive research programs on chimpanzees and other primates
  • Promote activities that ensure the well-being of chimpanzees, other primates and animal welfare activities in general [2]
