I don't think Hiawatha ever saw the Hiawatha belt. It is named after him though as he is credited with being the founder (or one of the founders) of the Iroquois Confederacy (also known as the Haudenosaunee Confederacy or the Great League of Peace). The belt depicts the five nations of the Confederacy, linked by a white line symbolizing the Great League.

Your best bet is to change the belt anyway, since belts are inexpensive. If that solves the problem, great. If not, then you can look into further repair, but the belt is not wasted because if one thing needs fixing but the belt was fine, it is just a matter of time before the belt breaks also.

You will not know. It may look great and be ready to snap. That is why you are required to replace the belt at a set mileage. If the engine is an interference engine and the belt breaks you will be more than just stranded with a non-running engine. You will have major internal engine damage. Replace the belt at the interval that is listed in your owners manual and do not neglect this maintenance.

There is a bolt on the lower bracket for the Alternator but that doesnt mean its whats causing the belt to screech... It could be dirt, a worn belt or a worn pulley. Take some greese, vasaline or anything like that, put it on the belt itself or if you wish the pulley and see if that helps, it worked great for my spirit cause i didnt want to replace belt even tho it is a good idea to replace the belt.
