Grand Funk started in 1968-69, and Mark and Don played with The Pack, previously known as Terry Knight and The Pack, before that. In between those two. Mark and Don were furious that the record was released without their consent or awareness of it. Someone made money off of Grand Funk's success. Mark says it was a guy from Michigan. He is not mad at the man now. Mel played bass with ? and the Mysterians before joining Grand Funk Railroad.

They are completely different songs.

Grand Funk Railroad's song "Paranoid" was released as the seventh track on their second studio album, "Grand Funk", which was released on 29 December 1969 in the United States.

Black Sabbath's song "Paranoid" was released as the second track on their second studio album, "Paranoid", which was released on 18 September 1970 in the United Kingdom.

I don't believe either band ever covered the other band's song.

Mark Farner played with Terry Knight and The Pack, or just The Pack prior to Grand Funk Railroad. Mark started as the bass player, working himself up to guitar and vocals when Terry Knight left as the leader. Don Brewer also played in The Pack on drums. Terry Knight became GFR's producer, from ,"On Time" through "E Pluribus Funk" albums. When Knight left, the band became just, The Pack.

I don't recall a Scott Cherry ever in Grand Funk Railroad. Early on in 1969-1971, it was Mark Farner, lead vocals and lead guitar, harmonica and keyboards, Mel Schacher on bass ,Don Brewer on drums.Craig Frost was added on keyboards in late 1971or early1972."Mean Mistreater" was played by Mark himself on keyboards in 1970-1971 before Craig. Terry Knight was GFR's producer and fronted Terry Knight and The Pack. Mark Farner and Don Brewer played in The Pack before Grand Funk Railroad. Don was on Drums, and Mark started on bass, and then guitar, then lead vocals. when Terry quit.
