Depends which branch of service. In the US Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps there are two Lieutenant ranks - Second Lieutenant (O-1) - which is the lowest commissioned officer rank - and First Lieutenant (O-2), which is the next rank up.

Likewise in the Navy and Coast Guard, there are also two Lieutenant ranks - Lieutenant Junior Grade - which is pay grade O-2 and equivalent to a First Lieutenant in any other branch - and Lieutenant - which is pay grade O-3 and equivalent to a Captain in any other branch. After (Navy) Lieutenant comes Lieutenant Commander, which is equivalent to a US Army/Air Force/Marine Corps Major.

i think so. cuz in movies u nevr hear any1 address a first or second lieutenant

This depends. Second Lieutenants and First Lieutenants are both addressed verbally as "Lieutenant". The Army, Marine Corps, and Air Force have Second Lieutenants as the lowest Commissioned Officer rank. They are then promoted to First Lieutenants. The next rank for Army, Marine Corps, and Air Force Officers is Captain.

The Navy has the rank of Lieutenant but is a higher rank. Naval Officers begin as Ensign. They are promoted to Lieutenant JG (junior grade) and then to Lieutenant. The Navy Lieutenant is the equivalent of an Army Captain.

The Navy also has the Captain rank, but the Navy Captain is the equivalent of an Army Colonel.

Company Commander will typically be a Captain.. in some cases, they may even be a Major, and there are times when it'll be a First Lieutenant who is on the verge of being promoted to Captain.

Executive Officer will be a First Lieutenant.

Platoon Leaders will hold the rank of either Second Lieutenant or First Lieutenant.

Other officers.. depends on what kind of unit it is, exactly. Some units (such as aviation) will have a number of Warrant Officers, as well.

The 'commander', a term not normally used, of a British (not 'English'!) warship is known as the 'commanding officer' or 'captain'. In this sense, the term, 'captain', does not refer to his rank, as this may vary from lieutenant (e.g. minesweeper), lieutenant commander (e.g. conventional submarine), commander (e.g. nuclear submarine), or captain (e.g. aircraft carrier).

The second in command is known as the 'First Lieutenant'. On large vessels, where the captain holds the rank of captain, the first lieutenant usually then holds the rank of commander, and is then known as 'the Commander' rather than 'First Lieutenant'.

A Lieutenant was the lowest rank of an officer. Usually an officer had training and was commissioned to serve as an officer. However, in some state units, an officer was picked by an election from the other soldiers.

The Lieutenant usually commanded part of a company or about 20 or 30 men. There were two levels of officer rank using the term Lieutenant. The first(lowest) was 2nd Lieutenant and the next rank was 1st Lieutenant. Then the next rank in his promotion would be Captain and then Major.
