German Literature Companion:

Ein Fastnachtspiel vom Pater Brey, dem falschen Propheten

Ein Fastnachtspiel vom Pater Brey, dem falschen Propheten, a short satirical play written in Knittelverse by J. W. Goethe in Frankfurt in 1773, published in 1774. Pater Brey abandons his sanctity in order to make love to Leonora, whose betrothed Balandrino is absent. It is a drastic satire directed at Franz Leuchsenring, who, during the absence of Herder, had pressed his attentions on Caroline Flachsland, Herder's fiancée.
