Circa 1850's: originally 'doldrum' was a word meaning 'dullard; dull or sluggish; probably derived from 'dol', meaning 'dull'. It was, around the same time, used as a nautical term to describe an area just north of the equator where the two belts (meteorological term describing a region where a specific condition is found) of trade winds meet and neutralize each other resulting in no wind or wind insufficient to move a ship fitted only with sails. It was mistakenly used to describe a place rather than a circumstance. It is commonly used today to adumbrate a nautical state of being, a physiological condition and/or an emotional condition.

The term was derived from "Picker Head" which was a protrusion off of a drum in old farm machinery which caught the material to be picked, be it an ear of corn, a sunflower head, a cucumber etc., and separated it from it's stalk or vine.

Because the termination box on an electric motor looked very similar, it was called (probably) "that there picker head thang on the 'lectric motor"!

Interestingly enough, in the South the term "Peckerhead" already meant a dullard and was also apparently derived from "Picker Head", but meaning someone too dumb to do anything on the farm but be a picker. With a Southern twang, "picker" can easily end up sounding like "pecker".

There are several registry keys which control the windows 7 taskbar some of the keys have been migrated from windows xp which had a much better behaved taskbar. There is a generic fault in the microsoft programming for this bar. It is common for it to disappear completely and can even happen windows 7 updates making system restore the easiest option. Running explorer.exe will not always bring it back, and even a reboot may not prove successful. Microsoft blames the erratic behaviour of their taskbar on third party pop up reminders from the taskbar. This is "poppycock" their operating system should insulatel anything as important and integral as the taskbar. Microsoft should be ashamed for not fixing a problem which has been going on now since the inception of Windows 7. The only decent operating system they have is windows xp and thats only because its been out so long now even their dullard programmers have gotten around to understanding it.

You will not be able to fix this problem from the registry alone as the operating shell is at fault.

DO stands for Doctor of Osteopathic medicine, which is an alternate degree to MD in the United States. DOs can evaluate patients, prescribe medications, and perform surgery. They can specialize in any medical or surgical specialty.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The dr delaughter do (above) is correct. The U.S. trained DO and MD are treated the same by the USA in prescribing medicines and perform surgery and become specialists. The Delaughter I am certain would also agree that the DO should change it's name to MD,DO (Medical Doctor, Diplomate of Osteopathy). That way, the general dullard banal public would realize that the DO is definitely a Medical Doctor (MD) and the DO following the MD title would emphasize that this MD might know some manipulation of the bones and stuff or at least had been trained in it. Hell, as delaughter must know, most DOs don't even use manipulation anymore, the DO just wanted to go to medical school and it may have gotten into a DO school as a route. Other medical students that do not get into a US MD or DO school, end up going to the Carribean and get an MD degree. Look, with the rise of the DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice), the DO should change it's degree to MD,DO to compete with the DNPs threating to take over primary care.
DO after a physician's name stands for Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.

The Romans nickname was the agnomen. The Roman naming system consisted of the praenomen (the person's first name) nomen (the name of the clan) and cognomen (the name of the branch of the clan). To these, an agnomen (plur. agnomina) could be added. These were nicknames.

Some agnomina were adoptive. An adopted person would take the adoptive fathers' name. An agnomen was added to indicate the former identity.

Some agnomina were triumphal. They indicated the area were someone had been victorious or who someone defeated. Some examples are Scipio Africanus (the African), Claudius II Gothicus (the Goth).

Apart from these, agnomina often described a characteristic of the person and were sometimes derogatory. Agnomina were not always used. Sometimes they became cognomina.

Here are just a few examples of agnomina are: Aculeo (prickly, unfriendly), Ahala (underarm pit), Albinus (pale, white skinned), Ambustus (scolded), Aquilinus (eagle-like), Barbatus (bearded), Brutus (dullard), Caecus (blind), Calidus (hot-headed), Caninus (dog-like) Cordus (born late), Corvus (crow), Crispus (curly-haired), Crassus (fat) ,Cunctator (procastinator), Curvus (stooping), Imperious (domineering), Laterensis (from the hill side), Lentulus (slow), Lepidus (charming), Paullus (small), Postumus (born after the father's death), Pictor (painter), Rufus (ginger-haired), Severus (strict), Scaevola (left-handed), Superbus (haughty), Varus (bow-legged).
