In general usage, the influence exerted by one person or group over another person or groups. In sociology, domination is indicated by the likelihood that a command will be obeyed, and is distinguished from power that may be imposed despite resistance.

 

The relationship between animals and humans in which little consideration is given to the rights of the animals. The prevailing sentiment is one of proprietary domination.
