They have their place if you are diving in a dry suit for an extended time. If you are diving in a wet suit they would not be needed for obvious reasons. Scuba diving can dehydrate you from breathing the dry air in the scuba cylinders, so hydration is a must.

the suit is an astronaut's suit. problem solved.

Not likely. A better answer is that he was in a deep-sea diving suit and, while under water, snagged it on an obstacle. Water filled the suit and ultimately his helmet. He drowned. There is no such thing as an astronaut's suit. It is by definition a spacesuit(one word). Thus, for the first answer to be correct the problem would have to be worded as "A man is found dead with a hole in his spacesuit. How did he die?" A deep-sea diving suit, on the other hand, can be referred to as a suit.

No. While the suit might protect you from the pressure,it could not protect you from the extremely high temperatures.

A rigid diving suit provides more protection against the extreme pressure of the deep sea. A flexible suit could compress under the pressure, causing harm to the diver. The rigid suit helps maintain a stable environment for the diver at such depths.

Neutral buoyancy is achieved by adjusting the amount of weight in a scuba diving BCD or by using a dry suit, to offset the buoyancy of the diving equipment and exposure suit. By achieving neutral buoyancy, you can hover in the water without sinking or floating, which helps conserve energy and allows for better control and maneuverability while diving. Balancing your weights and buoyancy properly is key to achieving neutral buoyancy underwater.

Of course, you can wear a shorty, a full-length or even a body suit or bathing suit for diving. Just make sure it keeps you warm/cool enough and protects you from uncomfortable rubbing of your gear. It does matter where you are, though. In cold water, such as the North Sea, a dry suit is much more advisable. Your wetsuit would be fine for more comfortable climes.

NSPI wrote the book on diving board and pool specs. They, not too long ago, lost a gigantic law suit involving boards and pool measurements. They had to file for bankruptcy. So if they cannot get it right no one can when it comes to law suites. Since the suit, diving boards have become a huge liability.
