Bobby Orr, though he did not have a lengthy career, is unquestionably without
peer as defencemen go. He was the most powerful skating defenceman in the history of the game and could do incredible things with the puck. A critical part of his scoring skill was his ability to shoot the puck from the point hard and low, resulting in many deflections. Rarely did his shots traject more than waist high, so they were more frequently shots on goal. That's one key reason why he was an Art Ross Trophy winner. There hasn't been a defenceman before or since Orr who possessed the skill levels he did.

The lower the number, the more flexible the stick is. The higher the number, the stiffer the stick is. Defenceman usually prefer stiffer sticks (high numbers) because they usually take hard slapshots from the ble line, while forwards have more flex (lower number). It's all about personal preference.

Chara's stick is 65 inches long.
"Zdeno Chara, the Boston defenceman, has an exemption allowing him to use a 65-inch stick. He's 6-foot-9 so you can see he might have to hunch over a bit using a stick that's a league-maximum 5-foot-3 from heel to handle-end."

The best hockey player ever would be Wayne Gretzky (I agree! My friend hates his little brother because he was born the day Wayne retired!) hands down. He dominated the league, and nearly every stat in it for years. He's set insane amounts of records, that still stand and no one is coming close to them at the moment.
http://www.nhl.com/ice/careerstats.htm#?navid=nav-sts-career
Those are the career totals for NHL and its present and previous players.
To give light to the situation, he is nearly 1000 points ahead of everyone. Points are awarded by scoring goals and making assists. An outstanding player can get 100 points a season, while he scored way more than that.
Other notables would be: Bobby Orr (the best defenceman of all time) Gordie Howe, Mark Messier, Steve Yzerman, Mario Lemieux, Maurice Richard

This is a tough question as it is filled with opinion and questions. The IIHF had a ceremony 2008 where they presented the all century team chosen by an expert panel.
The players were:
Vladislav Tretjak, Russia
Vjatjeslav Fetisov, Russia
Börje Salming, Sweden
Valerij Charmalov, Russia
Sergej Makarov, Russia
Wayne Gretzky, Canada
Many would disagree however as Salming, Makarov and Fetisov all played in the NHL (the pinnacle of pro hockey) and only one of which made any top 100 NHL player lists. That player is salming coming in at an impressive #74 behind Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr (the greatest defenceman of all time, Gordie Howe (Mr. Hockey), Maurice Richard and many others. Gretzky however is UNDOUBTEDLY the greatest player of all time. If you still are unsure, check around some other web sites and I'm sure you will form a more well rounded opinion.

Typically, there are five (5) main positions: two guards, two forwards, and a center. By rule, there is nothing that any one of these positions can do that the others cannot. But they all have traditional "roles" which they usually adhere to. They are listed below.
However, note that many basketball coaches tend to simplify their offense by starting five players who are either wings or posts. Posts play around the basket, and usually get the ball when they're already in a position to score. Wings are ball-handlers with a better outside shooting ability, usually, or at least have the skill to take their defender off the dribble and get to the basket for a closer shot.
