I always thought he was not, but recently ascertained his mother's maiden name was Barnett and not Bennett, as stated in biographies. I am very interested in genealogy and will research further. It may well be his father was not Jewish but his mother was [same as David Puttnam] and she altered the name to Bennett to try to conceal her Jewish background. Barnett however is also just as much an English as Boulting is, but the change from Barnett to Bennett appears a bit suspicious
