A coracle is a small, round boat made traditionally of woven wooden or metal laths covered with a waterproof material like animal hides or canvas. It works by using a single paddle or oar to navigate, with the lightweight design allowing for quick turns and easy maneuverability in shallow waters. Coracles are primarily used for fishing or transportation in rivers and coastal areas.

In the story I have heard, Sir Mordred was supposedly Arthur's Son/Nephew. Merlin Prophesied that Arthur's son would kill him. Arthur sent Mordred out with 40 other babies to die afloat in a coracle out in the sea. Mordred was the only survivor, grew up in Lothe, and became a knight of the round table. He did fulfill his destiny. He killed Arthur while Arthur killed him.

( all this from I am Mordred by Nancy Springer)

Possibly the Welsh prince Madoc late in the twelfth century, but more likely Leif Eriksson the Viking or some Basque fishermen. Some people think that Phonecians or Carthaginians may have discovered America in ancient times. The Irish St. Brendan may have discovered America before 600 AD, but even if he did it would probably have been in a coracle so wouldn;t have had any sails. It is possible that Australian Aboriginals may have discovered south America before any other peoples. Easter Islanders also made contact before Columbus, but the exact date is unknown.

The English word "trug" comes actually from an Anglo-Saxon word "trog" which meant "boat shaped". Trugs have been made in Sussex, England since Anglo-Saxon times and were redesigned by one Thomas Smith in the village of herstmonceux, Sussex back in 1829. He made Trugs famous by selling some to Queen Victoria on the first day of the Great Exchibition in Hyde Park, London in 1851 and was awarded the Roayl Warrant. The original "trog" were round in shape (like the coracle) and hewn from solid timber to make a measuring recepticle. The traditionalTrug today is made from Sweet Cehstnut and Cricket Bat Willow woods.
