Bizarre Love Triangle

"Bizarre Love Triangle" is a single released in 1986 by the British alternative/dance music group New Order. A version is included on their album Brotherhood.

Though generally regarded as one of the group's best singles, it failed to make the UK Top 40, only reaching #56. It was, however, a surprise hit in Australia, reaching #5 and initiating a string of five consecutive Top 20 hits. In the U.S, the song's popularity has only climbed steadily since 1986 and it is considered a classic in many circles.

The single mix features a cleaner sound with more electronics than the album version, notably the Fairlight CMI music workstation, the premier sampling keyboard workstation of the eighties, used to provide novel sounds, such as the orchestra hits that were so popular, but also to sequence the song. All instruments minus bass and voice were sequenced. [1]

Releases

The 12" version appears on the compilation Substance and a remix by Stephen Hague features on their Best Of album. The 7" mix has never appeared on an album.

The music video was directed by American artist Robert Longo. It prominently featured shots of a man and a woman in business suits flying through the air as though propelled by trampolines; this is based directly on Longo's "Men in the Cities" series of lithographs. ^[2]

A version is on the soundtrack of the 1988 film Married to the Mob.

Other appearances

This song has been covered by many artists such as Even As We Speak, Frente!, Manitu, Devine and Statton and most recently South and Apoptygma Berzerk. Stabbing Westward covered the song for the 2001 soundtrack to Not Another Teen Movie.
In 2001 the German band PAULA from Berlin maintained a side project with all songs in English language, called Commercial Breakup, releasing their rendition of the song both on the album "Global Player" and in a different mix as a single on CD.
The song was also remixed in 2005 by The Crystal Method (for their album Community Service II) and by Richard X (for the New Order single "Waiting for the Sirens' Call").
This song was also done in 2005 by The Speaks of Washington, DC, for their album "Life's A Joke".
It was remade into Mandarin, "Yi Ge Ren", by Sandy Lam.
It was covered by Korean singer Ash and simply titled "B.L.T".

The Karaoke Revolution cover of this song, by "Jerry," was featured in the 2004 US home release of Dance Dance Revolution EXTREME.
The instrumentals of the song are featured in a commercial for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. It talks about how chocolate has strained the relationship between peanut butter and jelly.
