You can go onto google images and see for yourself what a bass trumpet looks like. It is generally a larger instrument than the trumpet with a larger bore.

1 answer

Nope. The double bass is a few octaves lower than the trumpet.

1 answer

A bass trumpet sounds in the register of a baritone, exactly one octave below that of a normal b-flat trumpet. The bore size (diameter of the tubing) of the bass trumpet is considerably greater than that of a normal b-flat trumpet, and the bell size and slide length will all be similarly increased. The mouthpiece of the Bass Trumpet also resembles a Trombone/Baritone mouthpiece.

I'm not sure what your question was... so I'll assume you're asking about the way to properly transpose Bass music (again, string bass, or what?).

Bass is a C, non-transposing instrument, and trumpet is a Bb transposing instrument in a higher clef, so you'll need to start on the note written for bass, write it one or two octaves higher to the same note in the treble clef, and then move it up two half steps for the trumpet to play the same sounding note as the bass. (obviously a few octaves higher)

Each one of the Brass instruments have a different vocal range.

The trumpet is a soprano to alto instrument. (You can bet bass trumpets but they are rare.)

The Trombone is a tenor or Bass.

French horn or the English horn are Tenors.

Euphoniums are bass to tenor.

The Eb Bass Tuba is a bass instrument.

Sousaphones are bass to double bass.

The trumpet is an alto instrument.

The trombone is a tenor or bass instrument.

They operate an octave apart so you cannot perform all the same notes on the trumpet as the trombone. There is some crossover however.

There are (at least) two jazz musicians by the name Avishai Cohen.

One is a bass player, the other one is a trumpet player. If you type the name into the search box at answers.com you get a "disambiguation list" with two identical entries. The first one takes you to the entry for the bass player, the second one to the trumpet player.

Many types of trumpets exist, and most of these are made with both piston and rotary valves.

  • Bb Trumpet
  • C trumpet
  • D trumpet
  • Eb trumpet (sometimes a convertible D trumpet)
  • G trumpet (not very common, also called soprano trumpet)
  • Piccolo Trumpet (keyed in A or Bb, and in the case of Bb sounds a full octave above a normal Bb trumpet)

There are some other types of horns that are either not classified as trumpets or are extremely uncommon:

  • Cornets
  • Flugelhorns
  • Bugles
  • Slide Trumpet/soprano Trombone (A trumpet that has a single slide instead of valves)
  • Bass Trumpet (A trumpet that sounds in the trombone register)
  • Pocket Trumpet (A trumpet in the key of Bb with highly coiled tubing that causes it to be approximately half the size of a regular Bb trumpet)
  • The Shewhorn (Bobby shew's modified two-bell trumpet)
  • The four-valve quarter tone trumpet
  • The Monette Prana Flumpet

Trumpet and tenor trombone are the most common. Sometimes the cornet is used instead of the trumpet or a tuba instead of a string bass. In marching jazz bands the sousaphone is often used to provide the bass line. In the Big Band lineup a fourth trombone part is often added for a bass trombone.

That depends on the instrument. For example, trumpet music is typically written in treble clef, while trombone and tuba music is in bass clef. And, of course, variations on instruments (bass trumpet) can differ from the convention.
