Describe the main features and purpose of the ANZUS treaty?

ANZUS stands for Australia, New Zealand, United States Security Treaty so the U represents the United States.

ANZUS is an acronym for Australian, New Zealand & US Forces serving together in the PTO during WW 2.

NATO, SEATO, nor the UN were utilized in the Vietnam War. The war's controversy had affected the members. However, ANZUS (Australia, New Zealand, United States), even though there were some disagreements there to, did take effect. ANZUS, created in '51, called for defense to protect nations in the immediate Pacific area, thus ANZUS responded.

SEATO would've done the same thing, however the SEATO members of Britain, France, and Pakistan refused to deploy troops to Vietnam; thus, again, ANZUS had to hold the line.

The ANZUS treaty has provided security for both America and New Zealand in the Pacific. It has also strengthened the bonds with the other nations allowing for links (e.g. trade and aid links) to be established.

As a result of ANZUS, Australia and America have worked together for future programs such as the war in Iraq. America has complimented Australia in saying it has gained a strong and persistent ally.

This was a security (In the act of war to any one of these countries the others would support them) treaty between the Australians, New Zealanders and the United States. Lange made his name on the international stage with a long-running campaign against nuclear weapons. His government refused to allow nuclear-armed ships into New Zealand waters, a policy that New Zealand continues to this day. The policy, developing in 1985, had the effect of prohibiting United States Navy ships from visiting New Zealand. This displeased the United States and Australia: they regarded the policy as a breach of treaty obligations under ANZUS and as an abrogation of responsibility in the context of the Cold War against the Soviet bloc. After consultations with Australia and after negotiations with New Zealand broke down, the United States announced that it would suspend its treaty obligations to New Zealand until the re-admission of United States Navy ships to New Zealand ports, characterising New Zealand as "a friend, but not an ally".

Erroneous claims sometimes suggest that David Lange withdrew New Zealand from ANZUS. His government's policy may have prompted the US's decision to suspend its ANZUS Treaty obligations to New Zealand, but that decision rested with the U.S. government, not with the New Zealand government.
