Antares Pharma understands antagonism towards needles. The company (formerly Medi-Ject) develops needle-free injection systems. Its Medi-Jector Vision system is a handheld device that injects a thin, high-pressure stream of liquid, eliminating the need for a needle. The Vision system is used primarily for the delivery of insulin and of human growth hormones for children; it is available over-the-counter and by prescription in the US and is also sold overseas. Antares was formed when Medi-Ject completed a reverse acquisition of Permatec, a Swiss company. Chairman Jacques Gonella owns about 20% of Antares.
