Anosognosia is the inability of a person to recognize his or her own illness or handicap, or a failure to be aware of a defect resulting from one's disability.

Some reasons someone might not seek help for schizophrenia include fear of stigma or discrimination, lack of awareness about their symptoms, denial of their condition, or experiencing anosognosia, which is a lack of insight into their illness. Additionally, they may not have access to mental health services or support.
